If you are going to re-use old boxes, ensure all markings are taped over and that the boxes previous use does not raise concerns for Dept. of Ag., they must not have come in contact with any organic substances. It is preferable to use new and good condition boxes, these can usually be purchased from local moving companies.
Do not use straw, sawdust, or other plant materials as packing or fillers.
A detailed packing list of EVERY item you are packing must be written out, this is called a “packing list”. This is important.
All boxes must be labelled with exact contents, and must be numbered in sequence, i.e.. 1 out of 20.
ALL personal effects shipments are required to be unpacked and inspected at an approved Dept. of Agriculture depot. A list of these depots can be found here.
Your container will need to be transport directly from the wharf to one of the depots that is approved to handle these types of consignments.
