What are Unaccompanied Personal Effects (UPEs)?
Unaccompanied Personal Effects (UPEs) refer to your household and personal items that you bring into Australia separately from yourself. This concession allows passengers or crew members arriving in Australia to bring certain goods into the country without having to pay customs duty or GST, provided specific criteria are met.
UPEs can arrive by air, sea cargo, or international mail.

- Personal hygiene and grooming products
- Furniture
- Appliances
- Sporting equipment
- Books

All assignments require specific paperwork, we can outline this to you with more details about your goods. All consignments of UPEs will be subject to some form of biosecurity inspection. Agriculture will conduct this inspection

Goods that can not be UPEs?
The following goods are not eligible for the UPE concession
- Motor vehicles
- Motor vehicle parts
- Commercial goods
- Bequeathed goods
- Items that you have purchased over the internet after your arrival in Australia
- Items belonging to another person who is not eligible for the concession
- Tobacco and tobacco products (cigarettes, cigars, or other products containing tobacco)
- Alcoholic beverages.
Do you meet ALL the following criteria?
For these to be TRUE personal effects you must meet the following
- Goods MUST be OWNED and USED for over 12 months
- Importer must not have been in Australia for more than 9 months
- Importer must have been absent from Australia for a long period for work or living (not holiday) over 12 months
